Making your City a Campus and Learning Laboratory: An Exploratory Study on City Learning Tour as a Conducive Learning Tool

Abstract
– “Cities as classrooms” is not a new concept. However, their role in education and training have been highlighted in recent years as ICT and social media enabled the sharing of knowledge and information about cities and their good practices. This paper discusses the concept of City Learning Tour as a Conducive Learning Tool (CLT = CLT). It focuses on the experiences of the Master of Public Management Program of the University of the Philippines Open University in organizing and conducting CLTs to enhance the capacity of its faculty members and staff and encourage development and sharing of open educational resources. The study aims to: a) discuss CLT as an Open Education Practice (OEP); b) present the activities of the CLTs that were organized and implemented by the MPM Program; c) identify the outputs of the CLTs; and d) discuss the lessons learned from the conduct of CLTs. The study highlights the CLTs of the Program from 2016 to 2018 which is composed of one CLT in Taiwan and several CLTs in different parts of the Philippines. It utilized primary and secondary data which includes informal discussions with stakeholders and review of literature and reports.
