Abstract

This paper discusses the different research and development processes undertaken by a pioneering bioenergy researcher particularly bioethanol towards sustainable community development. Specifically, it describes the innovative processes through a qualitative narration of experiences in coming up with a national bioenergy research and extension for sustainable development (NBioERESD) program. Based on this, the NBioERESD Program provides an avenue of reflective discourse on effective and efficient research management along the areas of generation of resources, human resource development and management, physical facilities management including equipment utilization and dissemination of research and development results. The significant milestones served as the basis in developing a strategic framework for research and development (R&D) program in an emerging center of academic, research and development excellence in the bioenergy community of interest and practice. The case of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) is discussed in detail to highlight the different aspects of management from planning, coordinating, organizing, implementing and control of program activities and breakthroughs. Response to global challenges and trends enabled the researcher, program team and its institution to work in achieving the vision, mission and goals coined as ACHIEVE for the next 10 years. Keywords: Innovative processes, community
